As a result of gun violence affecting my hometown and around the US, I was motivated to speak to a group of young students about the importance of expressing themselves creativity and being leaders amongst their peers. I am in support of Essence Magazine’s Guns Down Campaign to help President Obama pass stricter gun control laws. In addition to supporting our President through Congress, I believe it takes great love and respect for one another and rebuilding the family structure to get to the core of the problem. Laws won’t fix our country’s issues completely but good morals instilled from a young age will.
The note reads:
“I am concerned about the thousands of children who lose their lives to gun violence every year. I am concerned that gun violence disproportionately impacts communities of color, devastating families and robbing so many of our children of their future.
Mr. President, I support your initiatives to curb gun violence, include restrictions on assault weapons, strengthen mental health care for young people, universal background checks for gun purchasers, stiffer criminal penalties for gun trafficking and funding research on the causes and prevention of gun violence.
Mr. President, please share with Congress my support for your initiative to end gun violence. Together we can ensure a bright future for all our children.”
Let’s make a difference today! Join me and others here.
Thanks for all your help!
